Dave G. and the Austin, TX All-Stars

Ole DG is out hittin’ the road again. It’s gonna be real hard this time without my number one soul soldier, but we’ll be celebrating the life and music of Gaff throughout the summer. I’m starting the tour out in Tennessee with a benefit for Chris Gaffney at the Mercy Lounge. I’m out here playing with some real All-Star Texas Musicians/friends that will go with me ‘till late July. This new band will be called The Stone River Boys.

Mike Barfield will be doin’ a lot of his great singin’ and strummin’ and playin’ some harmonica too! I’ve been a big fan of Mike’s for a very long time. We met back in ’82 in Houston, and I’ve always had and loved his records. Barfield writes great songs, and he’s been a strong figure in the Texas music scene for a good while. You might remember him from his band the Hollisters, or more recently leading a soul-funk revue in Austin, Texas.

The great Dave Biller will be on pedal steel guitar. Dave is a super talented cat. Known for his great guitar work in so many bands and records with such people as Dale Watson, Wayne Hancock, Deke Dickerson and Asylum Street Spankers. He can play anything great! He’s amazing! Biller has been on the top of my all-time favorites list for a long time. Every time we’d see each other these past few years he’d mention that he’s been playing a lot of steel guitar. Amen! That’s what I love… a lot of steel guitar! So I went out ot Lukenback recently to hear him playin’ with a great female singer named Amber Digby. Wow! Dave was soundin’ so good on his steel guitar, and Amber! Oh Boy! She’s like hearin’ Connie Smith and Loretta Lynn a the same time! She’s the real deal. Look out y’all! She’s absolutely super. Biller is a veteran.

Another couple of “greats” that I’d like to tell y’all about are Damien Llanes on drums and the legendary Kevin “Big K” Smith on bass. Both of these cats have been on a lot of records and in the top Austin Roots/Blues/Country bands. Big K goes waaay back. The list of who’s he’s played with is amazing. He was the upright bassist of the legendary rock-a-billy trio High Noon. He’s also been with the super great country band Haybale for a long time. More recently he’s been with Dwight Yoakam for the past couple years, and of also lately with Jesse Dayton. I have no idea how Big K can find the time to go out with me this summer? But Wow! I’m very lucky to be able to have him! All of these cats are the top of the top musicians in Austin, and I’m so honored to have all these All-Stars get together with me for the next couple months…Hope to see you down the road.  Check out where we will be playing at HaciendaBrothers.com tour dates page on the website.
